Built in 1898, the Makin Lofts are architecturally valued as an early example of the influence of the Chicago School. The warehouse was converted to lofts in 1996. The space uses a double tall millwork cube to house storage and washrooms while concealing the base building elevator core. The original brick was restored and black walnut and steel were used throughout to retain a sense of history and timelessness.
